Ophcrack is a free open source utility licensed under GPL which is used to crack the passwords of Windows XP and Vista by using the rainbow tables. It is one of the most efficient implementation of the rainbow table method, implemented by the inventors of the method. It is capable of dumping the SAM file of a system and then use rainbow tables to decrypt the password.
